Freeview Changes September 2012

There will be further changes to the Freeview line-up of television stations on the 19th September, 2012.

There will be an additional station on LCN 8 (the number you press on your remote for the station). That will provide local services, though there may be a little wait for those to appear in this area.

High Definition Stations will change their Logical Channel Numbers (LCNs), starting at 101 instead of their current numbers starting at 50. Other channel blocks will change as shown below. This will bring the numbering pattern more into line with those of Freesat.

A new Freeview Information Station will also be added.

Details:
  • LCN 8:  (England and Northern Ireland) will become the slot for “local TV”. We can expect up to 21 local TV services in the UK
  • LCN 100: Will become a Freeview information page
  • LCNs 101 to 120: The Freeview HD stations. There are only 4 on Freeview at the moment, but there are now slots available for up to 20
  • LCNs 121-130: Children’s stations
  • LCNs 131 to 150: News stations
  • LCNs 171 to 198: Adult stations
  • LCNs 200 to 224: The Text-based stations
  • LCNs 225 to 299: MHEG content services
  • LCNs 400 to 499: Slots for Internet-enabled TV sets
LCNs used for services like Top Up TV (300+) and radio (700+) won’t change.

Here's the important bit: to receive all these changes you will need to carry out another retune on the 19th September. No doubt on-screen warnings will be issued nearer the time and afterwards. Remember, you cannot capture these changes by retuning before the event but can do so at any time after the event.
